Description
The scholarship on offer covers a maximum of €6,000 tuition fees related to the MRes programme. No additional stipend will be provided. Students are expected to enrol for and complete the MCAST Master by Research Programme. If selected, the candidate will go through the formal MCAST MRes admission process, and the scholarship will be subject to successful entry to the MRes programme. In addition, the selected candidates will be required to sign a scholarship agreement.
The MRes programme may be completed over 36 months part-time or 18 months full-time.
The scholarship is being supported by the FLEX MANUFACTURING project (Grant Agreement R&I-2024-012T), funded by Xjenza Malta TDP programme. FM project embodies the vision of delivering versatile and affordable humanoid robotic solutions that address pressing global challenges, including labour shortages and the demand for flexible automation in manufacturing. The FM project focuses on developing scalable, cost-effective humanoid robotic systems designed for tasks requiring adaptability and precision.
Requirements
a. recognised MQF/EQF Level 6 qualification in any area or field of study, with at least 180 credits and a Second Class or higher, final degree classification
OR
b. a recognised MQF/EQF Level 6 qualification in any area or field of study, with at least 180 credits, together with clear evidence of a minimum of three (3) years (full time) direct and relevant professional experience in the specific area of research
OR
c. a complete Professional Qualification comparable to an MQF / EQF Level 6, in addition to presenting clear evidence of a minimum of three (3) years (full time) direct and relevant professional experience in the specific area of research
The following will be considered an asset:
- Verified academic foundation in both introductory robotics and control systems
- Possess direct experience with ROS2 (Jazzy or Humble), including the creation of URDF models and visualization via Rviz2
- Practical hardware expertise, specifically regarding embedded systems, micro-ROS, and the deployment of robotics actuators utilizing CAN bus communication based (or similar) on the ODrive Tool
- Proficiency in MATLAB’s Robotics System Toolbox is required to facilitate high-level modeling and simulation of complex robotic architectures
- Key Technical Competencies:
o Software Frameworks: ROS2 (Jazzy/Humble), Rviz2, and URDF modeling.
o Hardware & Embedded: micro-ROS, ODrive Tool, and CAN bus communication.
o Modeling & Control: MATLAB Robotics System Toolbox and classical control systems.
